After decades of civil war, Toyotomi Hideyoshi unified Japan in 1590 an sought to turn his restless armies toward China. Korea was in the way. Korea's land army was no match for the Samurai of Japan. Japan's navy was vast. But Korea had Yi Sun-sin. Admiral Yi was a revered leader and a brilliant strategist. He combined his knowledge of Korea's coastline, his courage, and his instinct for new tactics to frustrate Japanese landings for 6 years. He won 23 naval battles. Ultimately, the Japanese withdrew. Construct a Japanese warship with its crew and Samurai. Construct the Korean Turtle (Kobukson), Yi's brilliant, agile gunship with an armored shell to frustrate boarders. The class will re-enact three of the conflict's most important battles.
